Centre's 'green' signal needed, BDD chawls redevelopment plan delayed again

The redevelopment of 207 century-old Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawls may get delayed further as the state government will have to seek clearance from the Union environment committee to go ahead with the project. Although BDD chawls, which are located in Worli, Dadar (east), Lower Parel and Sewri, fall in neither forestland nor in coastal regulation zone, the Union government rules specify that all construction projects on more than 20,000 square metres need an environment committee clearance.
